SHAKA: AKA HONEYBEE

A few weeks ago, I was visiting a friend near Santa Cruz and we were playing with our dogs when this gorgeous brindle pittie came up to us. She was sweet as can be and seemed to be looking for somewhere to go or someone to be with. We walked her and than drove around the neighborhood looking for her owners, but none were to be found. So I filed a found dog report at the shelter and on Craigslist. But to be honest, I had little hope that she would looked for. She wasn't fixed, her coat was dry and bleached out, she was covered in cuts and scabs and she wasn't fixed. So...of course I brought her home with us!

Here she is at my friend's house:

First of all, she was a maniac in the car which I am not used to! My dogs act like they are in a coma when they are in the car and she was panting like crazy, pacing back and forth and sticking her head way out the window. Luckily, by the second car ride she figured it out and laid on the floor like my dogs (maybe they showed her). Second, I had no idea how she would be with the cats and had to consider Gina being so young. So when we first arrived home I wanted to have her on leash and do a proper intro, but Marty jumped right in the car (he likes to greet the dogs when we get home), jumped in the back and started rubbing up against her and purring. I kept waiting for the ball to drop and for her to notice him, but she never seemed to care! I carefully fed her alone that night just to make sure she wouldn't recourse guard, but she really couldn't care less and so she came in to settle down for the night.

Does she look at home?

SUNDAY MORNING PITTIE TV: THE LITTLE RASCALS

It was Sunday morning and we had nowhere to be so I decided to check out some early days Little Rascals on youtube and found some great videos.

Love this one on training the dog who played Petey.

Then I watched this episode where they evil dog pound guy took Petey and almost gassed him (kind of dark actually!)

And of course I was joined by the lazy-time sleep-in crew...

No one noticed how cute Petey was being!

So that was that...

KAYA: THE CAT WHISPERER & HER SIDEKICK NORMAN

I've written in a previous post about Kaya's knack for convincing cats to like her and I was trying to figure out why they gravitate to her over Norman who seems equally as sweet to them. I think it is because Kaya basically shows no interest in them but finds a way to constantly walk past them, give them a sniff, lie next to them and then do her trademark look-back which I guess is less intimidating than Norman's more obvious approach...sit in front of them and look at them like "hello cat...ready to be my friend?"

Here is Kaya welcoming little Gina to the house:

But Norman is getting the hang of it too...

And so it looks like somebody's a huge fan!

And she's not the only one!

But Kaya's not out of the picture...

GINA: AKA SWEET BABY G, SQUEAKER, G KITTY

Marty is nearly a year old now and he has turn into a true adventurer, a funny guy with a a mind of his own and a fierce independent streak. My ideas of having a cuddly lap cat faded long ago, so recently I thought it would be a good idea to add a new kitty to the house. So I took a consensus. All those in favor say...

"Aye!"

"Aye!"

"Hell no!"

"Did you hear me lady?!"

So, go figure, my 2 pit bulls were happy as can be to have a new kitty in the house and Marty wanted her little head on a stick. But he lost the vote so Gina came to stay. She was just 5 weeks old, probably shouldn't have left her mother yet but the owner wanted the kittens gone. So, I picked the runt of the litter, figuring she would grow up to be healthy and strong being raised by a couple of loving pitties and one angry cat.

When I first got her home she let out soft hisses to the dogs, letting them know she was a bit overwhelmed. But I was actually relieved because Marty's first instinct as a young kitten was to cling to Kaya...her new mommy. So Gina clung onto me and followed me around whenever I put her down. I sent the dogs outside for a while so she could get her bearings. The next thing you know it looked like this...

I have taught the dogs to stay out of the bathroom so when Gina goes in to eat, drink or otherwise Norman has to observe like this...

And Kaya has a new cuddle partner.

But so do I!

And Marty will just have to get used to her:)
